LPG cylinder filling
Actronic developed a family of specialised electronic LPG cylinder filling products, which provided support software and enhanced the basic filling equipment. The products had to be simple to use, accurate, for trade measurement standards, and also had to operate in a flammable environment. The development project faced many challenges but was a great success. The product is in use at many petrol stations in New Zealand and at bulk filling plants around the world.
Instrumentation for America’s Cup yachts
Bob’s keen interest in sailing got Actronic involved in New Zealand’s early America’s Cup campaigns. The Actronic team developed specialised instrumentation to measure various forces and strains around the boat to optimise sail power.
Net Depth Indication
Fishing trawlers often operate their nets at great depths. Many years ago, Actronic developed a system to measure and control, to within a few metres, the depth of the net while it was being towed 2km below and some 5km behind the towing ship. Talk about a tough environment!
Pasteurising monitor
Actronic produced a device for the brewing industry to monitor the pasteurising process during bottling. The device passes through the pasteurising tunnel, where hot water is sprayed on the bottles or cans. It measures the temperature profile and calculates the total pasteurising effect. This is another example of the harsh environments Actronic products perform in: the monitor spends its life being sprayed with hot and cold water, and still remains water-tight and accurate.
